President Tom’s (Monster) November Blog
President Tom writes – Another month has come and gone! And a lot happened in October so here I go with a few thoughts on the month’s activities. Starting at the end – a President’s prerogative – it was a great pleasure to welcome our District 1st Vice Governor, Lion Tony Buchan to our November Business Meeting.
We were all sorry to hear of the passing of Lion Rod Menhennett. We will all miss Lion Peter Wood too as he has now moved to Paignton where he can be nearer his son. All the best Peter; we will keep you up-to-date with events here and hopefully meet up with you from time to time.
There has been some excellent responses from the participating schools in our Tree Project – see Lion Julia’s blog. I am so pleased that the club has been involved in a project that supports the environment, young people and the community as a whole. Good work!
It really was good to see everyone enjoying themselves at our 42nd Charter Anniversary Dinner at the Aztec Hotel. This is always a highlight of the year and again it lived up to expectation. Our guests and visiting Lions all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event the success it was.
On the subject of food…..thank you Zone chairman Ian for arranging the lunch get together at the Gables Hotel last Sunday. Good company and good food.
With December fast approaching Lion Keith and his Activities Committee are drawing up plans for the Christmas Carol Float. With Father Christmas and his helpers raring to go we must all keep our fingers crossed for good weather during December.
The Club has agreed that I should fine tune our proposed help to local schools via the ‘Serving with Literacy’ scheme. Helping young and disadvantaged kids with their reading skills is so worthwhile and rewarding. Watch this space for news.
I had a parcel from Australia the other day. It had more stamps on it than brown paper! Inside was a magnificent book depicting the members and activities of our twinned club, Heathcote Lions. This is a wonderful book, beautifully bound and full of interesting content. The book was accompanied by a warm letter from their President Daryl. We send our warm wishes and thanks to our fellow Lions ‘down under’ for sending us their book. John will make sure that everyone here has a chance to see and read the book – make sure you don’t miss it!
