President Tom’s August Blog
Lion President Tom writes – Well, what a busy few weeks! I have managed to catch up with most of the club officers and deputies over a coffee and can report that they are all settling in well. As promised Lion Bill and I will be taking a hard look at our finances – the costs of running our club – as of course much has changed in recent years. This will take time, but a report will be presented to the club and recommendations made in due course.
Good News! I am delighted to say that Dr Pendlebury from Changing Tunes and Paul Jason from Lawrence Weston Community Farm – both my chosen charities – have each agreed to give a brief talk at our Charter Night. My thanks to them.
Lions Bill, Julia and myself are hard at work organising our Tree Project that will take place on the 4th October. Look out for specific details together with a wide spread press releases in the local media.
The club turned out well at the Patchway Fete where our famous Frog Game was a huge attraction. Another fun occasion was our Bradley Stoke Branch Pudding Evening. Not only were there many calorific puds on offer but on a serious note it was great to see Jessica Monks presented with her Young leaders In Service award – see blog of 11th July. Taking full advantage of some lovely weather we all enjoyed the bowls evening, with pub grub afterwards, organised by Duncan and Mark. Well done lads.
On the 20th July Lions Bill, Julia and myself attended the District Handover Dinner and Ball at the Holiday Inn at Newport. This is where D.G. Harry Smith handed over to incoming D.G. John Mounty. It was certainly and interesting evening in many ways.
It is great to see the club is in good heart and flying! Everyone is working hard and full of enthusiasm. Keep it up!
